| The TxPRA is an organization for
Pro Stock Volkswagen drag racing in Texas. 1998 was the inaugural season
for TxPRA, and it was fast and furious on and off the track!
For those of
you who may be unfamiliar with Pro Stock Volkswagen drag racing, here is a quick
overview. The cars use the basic VW body (Bug, Ghia, and Type 3), with numerous
modifications such as fiberglass front end, doors and fenders, wrapped around a maze of
Chromoly and Mild Steel tubing. The car retains the original drive train location,
but these engines have been modified to produce some 300 h.p.. As for the racing
action itself, its pretty simple: the cars leave on a "Pro" tree, and
whoever gets to the finish-line first, wins! There are no break-outs, no dial-ins,
and NO DELAY BOXES! The racing action can be close and intense, with races being won
by a fraction of a second!
As mentioned
earlier, 1998 was our infant season for us here at the TxPRA. Our main objective is
to have fun, family oriented racing among VW-racers young and old alike. We want to
have FUN! If racing can't be enjoyable, why should we race?!?
